Debate: If ending The Late Show wasn't about Trump, why's he celebrating?

Stephen Colbert put on an emotional and existential final episode of “The Late Show” Thursday night, thanking his staff, studio audience and viewers for eleven years of laughs. Paramount cited financial pressures, but many Colbert fans blamed political pressures, namely President Donald Trump’s contempt for Colbert’s frequent criticism of him. Paramount was urgently seeking the Trump administration’s approval of a media merger at the time Colbert was given marching orders last summer. 0:00 What Trump posted about the remaining late night hosts 1:21 Money or politics? Senate GOP furious over Trump's $1.8B 'anti-weaponization' fund

Senate GOP furious over Trump's $1.8B 'anti-weaponization' fund

Reuters

The Trump administration’s push for a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund derailed Senate Republicans’ plans to pass the president’s priority immigration enforcement package Thursday. Senators left Washington for their Memorial Day recess with Republicans saying they were blindsided by the Justice Department’s announcement of the fund and at odds over how to rein it in. The issue had become so toxic for the Senate GOP that there were doubts they could muster 50 votes needed to pass the broader bill that would provide tens of billions of dollars to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and border patrol. President Donald Trump had demanded the package land on his desk by June 1, but GOP lawmakers will now almost certainly miss that deadline. 0:00 Tapper unpacks GOP blowback 2:12 Chief Legal Affairs Correspondent's sources on conversations behind closed doors 3:31 Congressional Correspondent describes pulse on Capitol Hill 5:12 January 6 rioter seeks grant as DOJ doesn't establish who can apply Watch more CNN here: https://cnn.it/4kh5RPe #Trump #GOP #News
