Abaxx Technologies: The New Swift Network or Something Even Bigger? International Finance and trade is complex. Real-time transfers, real-time settlements, real-time KYC, and real-time legal finality are even more complex. They are seen though as the pinnacle achievement in global finance. A goal so many institutions chase after. It is the root of the stablecoin race we are seeing today as institutions race to be the first to launch the best stablecoin offering. Maybe they are doing it all wrong? At its core the Swift Network is just a standardized messaging system to help transfer funds across international borders. It connects thousands of banks together across a vast amount of countries. It isn't entirely a complex technology. It's just the one that has the biggest network. As a result, it would be standard for any new bank to connect to it if it wanted to do any international transfers. The problem though is that it takes days for funds to be transferred and is often very expensive. Sure $50 transfer fee might not be alot if you are transferring billions, but for many, that fee could be the entire amount you want to send. Not exactly efficient. Keep in mind this varies per bank. The cost for banks to use it is much lower. Now banks aren't exactly charged by Swift $50 to make a transfer. Often times it costs anywhere from 5 cents to 50 cents. This is all proprietary info though which isn't easily accessible. We can estimate it though. It was estimated they made 1 billion euros in 2023 and Swift indicated they did 44.8 million messages a day bringing the cost per transfer to around 6 cents in Euros. Membership fees make up some of the revenue but that is even more proprietary so hard to estimate. What this highlights is that the Swift network is very valuable. Maybe one might value Swift at 20x their revenue but I would argue its higher given just how valuable owning a payment network like that is. Let's say it's worth 30-40 billion in Euros or 35-46 billion USD. This also highlights that banks are not exactly keen to lose out on the ability to charge $50 for what costs them maybe 6 cents. Swift is very valuable but also very entrenched. Owned by all the banks that make it up and overseen by central banks of the G10 countries. This entrenchment is what makes it so hard to break into it but also why they get away with slow payment processing and obscene delays to transfer your funds.

Nelly has 20 bagged from it's low in the summer of 23, starting from a similar valuation as ASOS, while revenues have declined 15% over that period The inevitable retail cycle. Revenues pulled back 26% from 21 to 24, which coincided with record inventory level of GDP 1bn in 22 (34% YoY increase). $MYX.AX: Barring an FIRB update or significant news I’ll hit pause on these posts until the trial and I’ll briefly summarize my thinking before 22 September: 1. 60% is an excessive spread; a state government publicly asking for FIRB intervention is highly unusual and possibly unexampled, but the current SA regime has a penchant for it (see their noises on Santos: https://abc.net.au/news/2025-06-16/sa-government-issues-warning-over-santos-takeover-bid/105421282) In my judgement this is posturing. If you believe Mayne, it never told SA it would shutter Salisbury - and it’s obvious why Mayne would be disinclined publicly to state as much, since (inter alia) the ensuing fracas with 200 employees and the associated union(s) would be a nightmare. Why would Cosette maintain that Salisbury would be shuttered? The cynical response is that it has agitated SA deliberately to ensure FIRB nixes the deal; if FIRB sees the choice as save Salisbury (no deal) or destroy it (deal) why would it favour the latter? My wager is FIRB calls Cosette’s bluff and sees this as a mendacious attempt to escape a bad bargain. 4D chess alternative is that Mayne’s C-suite wants the deal to fail because it keeps the emoluments of office even at 150% discount to the buyout price. I’m doubtful; although their stakes are relatively insubstantial, they want this to close on papered terms and they will work for FIRB closure, even if it means telling the Board, post-favourable-judgement, that Salisbury is dead. Again, I concede that’s pure conjecture. 2. If discovery had turned up anything ruinous for MYX or Jefferies, Cosette would be shouting from the rooftops and MYX would seek mutual unwind. Why would MYX go to trial and humiliate itself at considerable expense? I find it incredible that Mayne would waltz into the propellers, with G+T and a Banco silk cheering them on. Yes, lawyers are paid either way; but this is career-ruining humiliation for the C-suite, possibly even personal liability for fraud. Common sense says they’ve dotted their i’s. 3. Finally, I’m doubtful that Jim Chalmers think it’s appropriate to cancel this deal or impose impossible conditions on Cosette at the urging of SA. The retort to all of the above is that 60% adequately reflects the coupled risk of an adverse judgement in the trial and ex machina FIRB/Chalmers’s intervention. To that, the question in reply is whether Mayne would trade at a 60% spread if it wins the trial? My view is the r/r here justifies a stake; at $5.30 it was a harder sell. You might consider this an ironic instance of me trying to escape a bad bargain; but I trimmed substantially after earnings because I cannot attend the trial or feasibly listen to it live. My preference was to trade MYX once I’d perused the submissions. At a 60% spread, I’m re-entering cautiously. Nothing above is financial advice.
