In Q3 2025, the Janus Henderson Global Sustainable Equity Fund (Class I) returned 2.95%, underperforming the MSCI World Index's return of 7.27%. The underperformance was primarily driven by weak stock selection in information technology and financials, alongside a lack of exposure to certain mega-cap AI beneficiaries. Conversely, the fund's underweight allocations to consumer staples, healthcare, and real estate, alongside positive contributions from electrification-exposed names like Prysmian and TE Connectivity, aided relative results. Detractors included Spotify, Intact Financial, and Saint-Gobain, though the investment theses for these positions remain intact. The management team remains constructive, viewing AI not as a fad but as a transformative 'New Industrial Revolution' that serves as a catalyst for sustainable progress.
Sustainability is the ultimate 'north star' for long-term compound investing. Companies that actively align with positive environmental and social transitions—such as electrification and carbon reduction—while driving technological innovation will create superior and more resilient long-term economic value.
The managers believe that U.S. policy changes and broader global macroeconomic trends in 2025 will yield compelling opportunities in sustainable development. Despite debates over whether the market is starting a new productivity cycle or forming a speculative bubble, they remain focused on high-quality, durable businesses well-equipped to navigate both hype and macro headwinds.
